On Saturday, October 16, Swatch released its newest watch line at its retail outlet in Santa Monica, California, where Tony Hawk , Andy Macdonald , and snowboarder Shaun Palmer signed autographs for the better part of three hours. After the signing, Tony attended a Swatch V.I.P. party in Hollywood, where a plethora of famous people hobnobbed into the night. The world's most famous hobnobber (isn't that what they called it in the Senate inquiries?) Monica Lewinsky was there stalking Tony's friend. Tony met President Clinton 's ex-special lady, and they took a photo together. A couple weeks prior to his rendezvous with Monica, Tony also filmed for the Tom Green Show . He and Tom went skating, and they filmed a skit about how Tony and Tom saved the world from Sadam Hussein . How do a bunch of lowly magazine editors know about the nightlife of the rich and shameless? We read about it on www.tonyhawk.com , where Tony posts what he did each day (down to most minute of details), making us wish we were him.
Mercury Trucks sent us a couple pairs of their new M2 trucks, so we should probably mention them. The Mercury team consists of Jamie Thomas , Kenny Anderson , Charlie Wilkins , Heath Kirchart , and amateurs Joel Mienholz and Rob Pluhowski . TransWorld Assistant Art Director Aaron Regan got the coveted red pair of trucks (which on the Mercury press release are called the Jamie Thomas color). Hoping to capitalize off the ever-increasing paranoia the evening news bombards parents with on a daily basis, the ages-old helmet manufacturer is producing a signature line featuring Bucky Lasek , Brian Patch , Bob Burnquist , and Lincoln Ueda .

Vans announced plans to open their seventh Vans skatepark in Westminster, Colorado , a suburb of Denver. The park should be pretty damn big–supposedly measuring 45,000 square feet inside and 10,000 square feet outside–and is scheduled to open in Fall 2000. Transworld Rookie Editor Shad claims this park signifies the start of Colorado skateboard domination.
On Thursday, October 28 Kevin Marks , the driving force (no pun intended) behind a half-year-long skateboard roadtrip, premiered the video he made about the several-hundred-day excursion, The Four Corners Tour (reviewed in this month's Tangent), at Hangar 18 Skateshop in San Diego. Raffle tickets were sold to the 100 or so attendees, and the money raised was donated to the Washington Street Skatepark .

A groundbreaking ceremony for the Gotcha Glacier , the mammoth Anaheim, California indoor skate/snow/water park, officially launched the bold new project in October. The ridiculously big 435,000-square-foot structure is to house a climate-controlled snowboard park, a surfing park, a 35,000-square-foot skatepark, a free ice-skating rink, North America's largest rock-climbing wall, and six different Wave Loch Flowrider surfing and bodyboarding waves, as well as restaurants, retail stores, a fitness center, and more. It's scheduled to open in late 2000, and Gotcha International, a Glacier partner and corporate title sponsor, has also announced plans to build similar facilities around the country.
