Master the Pop Shove-It: Your Ultimate Guide in 5 Simple Steps

Welcome to our in-depth guide on one of the key, building-block flat ground tricks: The pop-shove it. We got Dominick Walker to show you how he does them at Nyjah Huston's skatepark.

Professional skateboarder Dominick Walker can do just about every flat ground trick there is, and he's got a great pop shove-it. Watch above as he takes you through the step by step process in learning this trick.

Step 1: Foot Placement

Check out where Dominick puts his feet before he pops.

How To Pop Shove-It
Your front foot angled slightly forward - just below the front bolts, and you back foot on the tail.

Step 2: The Pop

Most important! Get that board up off the ground! You're going to want to be doing this over picnic tables one day, right?

Use your back foot to pop the tail down to the ground, like an Ollie.

Step 3: Moving With The Board

Keep your feet moving with the board, anticipating where you'll meet it at the apex of the pop.

Slide your front foot off the board and let your back foot do all the work.

Step 4: Scoop Your Back Foot

Find the sweet spot on your tail where you'll get the most snappy pop while keeping the board level.

Use your back foot to scoop the corner of your board. Your back foot controls the board's spin.

Step 5: Catch and Landing

Master a graceful catch. Watch how Domo does it and keep practicing until yours looks like his.

Catch the board with your front foot first, then back foot.

Land with your feet over the bolts, bending your knees and legs to absorb the impact.

Tips and Tricks for Perfecting the Pop Shove-It

  • Tip 1: Practice your foot placement until it becomes second nature.
  • Tip 2: Keep your weight centered over the board, and avoid leaning too far forward or too far back.
  • Tip 3: Make sure that you pop the tail of the board down hard. You want height here!
  • Tip 4: Start slow and work your way up to faster speeds. All tricks look better when you're going fast!
