The 4th Annual Abloh Skate Invitational went down once again in Miami late last year, and Davonte Jolly just dropped the recap edit. It’s stacked with familiar faces alongside plenty of local Florida skaters, and it honestly feels like the biggest year yet—which is rad to see.
As always, Jolly nailed it behind the lens. This isn’t some cookie-cutter recap; it’s full of heart, and the energy comes through from start to finish. Take a look below.
"Glad the video is finally live. Thank you to everyone who made this happen and every skater that showed up & skated," Jolly wrote on Instagram. "It’s an honor for me to be apart of something to keep @virgilabloh name alive and celebrate his legacy. On another note the video almost didn’t happen this year because all the footage was erased from my external harddrive right as i finished the first cut. Luckily i was able to recover 95% of the footage and finish the video. But the 5% that was lost forever was the actual ending setup to the film. Which you can see from the last slide because i luckily sent a video to @thatsonme when i first stitched it together. A lot of lessons learned making this year’s video. Grateful to have recovered most of the footage to make something people can still enjoy."
The little interview cuts really tie the entire edit together. Hearing from dudes like Atiba, Na-Kel, Tyshawn and so many other people who were close to Abloh was really cool. The love and respect is too real. It's humbling to see so many people showing up for such a legendary human. RIP Virgil.
