Dun, dun, dun, dun, dun, dunnnn, dun, dunununun, nuh, nuh. It's pretty wild to think about where skateboarding would be without 411VM. My first skate video was issue 39 and I still have—and watch—that VHS tape often, and I'm sure there are countless similar stories out there all the same. It's iconic. It's history. And it unarguably helped shape skate video culture in its own powerful way.
For Skateshop Day 2026, 411VM is stoked to be dropping a super limited edition FREE 7” vinyl featuring the timeless 411VM 'Openers' song, “The Boxcar” by Sol, and will be available at supporting brick and mortar shops on Saturday, Feb 21, 2026.
To add to the stoke, the crew sat down with Issue 1 coverboy, Jeremy Wray and 411 co-founder, photographer and all-around-best-dude-ever, Chris Ortiz to talk Issue 1, the opener, early filming days, and much more. You comfy? Good. Press play.
Nothing like taking a trip down memory lane, right? Hearing these two swap stories about the early days of 411—specifically everything from Issue 1—was an absolute treat to hear about, if you ask me. We've all heard stories in passing over the years, but this is the good stuff right here. I could be a fly on this wall for days.
Our friends at Sidewalk Distribution and the original founders of 411VM have been dropping some incredible new gear and product recently—stuff they’ve never made before—that will get any 411 purist stoked. Decks, tees, puzzles, mugs—a "Chaos" alarm clock that should be at the top of your list. So dope. See it all here.
Anyways, there's a lot to look forward to and a lot to be stoked on this coming Skateshop Day, that's for sure. And the fact that we got to go on a proper deep dive into easter egg territory here—including that never before seen RAW footage from the original cover shoot session at UCI—was just the icing on the cake.
