Buckle up Portland skaters, because the city’s Parks and Rec department has big plans coming for the West end of Steel Bridge. With funding just secured of over $15 million for a new skatepark the planning department is gearing to commence a new park build in the spring of 2024. Design finalization and property acquisition for the new extensive skatepark are currently in the works. Get a quick glimpse of a new angle of the preliminary concept below!

“The skatepark near the Steel Bridge will be a world-class attraction,” said Ryan Hashagen, director of the Steel Bridge Skatepark Coalition. “It will breathe life and energy into Old Town Portland. This new public park will activate the area by providing a recreational space for people, inclusive of all backgrounds and abilities. The Steel Bridge Skatepark Coalition of businesses, neighbors, and skate advocates is overjoyed to see Commissioner Ryan make this investment in revitalizing Downtown Portland.”
Skaters will be pleased to hear that Grindline Skateparks is already on the concept design crew, meaning this park will be designed and crafted for skaters by skaters. This is a huge win for the Portland community and surrounding areas!
