A go-to spot in Brooklyn's Williamsburg neighborhood, the monument of George Washington at Valley Forge, is always a good call, for instance if the Reggaeton Ledges are too crowded or it's not too hot. The Monument, dare we say, sometimes gets overlooked as one of NYC's most reliable spots.
Enter the always forward thinking Late Nite Stars crew and their idea to throw a little contest/jam here with dough from Stance socks. We were on hand to check it out and can attest it was as pure a skate jam as any could be. A trash can full of free Modelos and waters, a wild DJ that switched from Drum n Bass to Celine Dion, and plenty of ripping from the Stars and other locs. But don't take our word for it, peep the montage below courtesy of Quartersnacks, and stay tuned for the epic nighttime section at the end!
Filmed by Trung Nguyen, Chase Walker, Nate Hanson and Nico Marti. Edit by Trung Nguyen. Ramp build by Zak Anders, Jackson Anders, Chase Walker and Trung Nguyen. Ramp painting by Andy Conte.
So much ripping went down. From Brett Weinstein going upstream on the Hubba to hit the high ledge (the fakie manual was insane!), Isak White's Hubba trick list and gapping up to back tail on the high ledge, Matt Militano's Hubba assault and more. Filmer empresario hisself Chase Walker getting some clips in there too, notably the epic varial heel.
Not only were the obstacles really brilliant, but they fit the spot perfectly and were color-matched identical to the monument. The fact that the ramps stuck around and weren't taken by the Parks Dept is a big tip of the cap to the builders here. Rad to see the process covered in here—true talent and attention to detail.
As of this writing, the ramps may still be there, so you know what to do—GTWYC!
