You certainly don't need me to tell you skateboarding comes with its fair share of risks, but hearing a story like this is still super heavy.
Nyjah Huston recently took to Instagram to share the details of his terrifying slam that left him with a black eye and fractured skull, and it’s a sobering (but inspiring) look behind the scenes of one of the worst falls I've personally seen in a while.
By now, you’ve probably seen the clip—if not, I’ve dropped it at the bottom of this article. Either way, Nyjah’s here to break down exactly what went down on that brutal day. Take a look:

"Went a little too fast. Locked in wrong. Simple as that," Nyjah explains in the first slide. Unfortunately, sometimes it really is just as simple as that. It's easy to forget just how gnarly some of the spots are that we see our favorite pros skating (if you haven't seen the rail Nyjah was skating, just wait), and hell, it's their fault. Ha! They make this stuff look way too easy.
Jokes aside, it comes with the territory, and we're just stoked to see Nyjah on the road to recovery. He's one of the gnarliest dudes to ever step foot on a skateboard and has undeniably played a huge role in skateboarding's progression over the past decade-plus. This is more of a speed bump than a barrier, if you ask me. He'll be back in no time.
I think we can all appreciate Nyjah hopping on the Gram and filling us all in either way. I've certainly been curious. Seems like he's in good spirits though, proving yet again that he's tough as nails. It was a close call, that's for sure. And we're glad that he's still here to tell us the story. Rest up, Nyjah! We'll see you out there soon.
Okay. Have you seen the slam yet? The Nine Club dudes dissected it in a recent video. Beware—it's gnarly. Check it out below:
