Skateboarding and SF go together like peanut butter and jelly spread across two slices of Wonderbread. But in the eyes of the city officials skateboarding has not been considered a legal form of transportation on city streets. But that's all about to change as the San Francisco County Transportation Authority held its inaugural meeting of its Skateboard Citizens Advisory Subcommittee last Tuesday, November 14th, 2023.
The current SF law goes as follows “prohibits skateboarding on any city street at any time, on any sidewalk in any business district at any time, and on any non-business district sidewalk commencing 30 minutes after sunset and ending 30 minutes before sunrise." Skateboarding is also banned around transit stations and during certain hours near business districts.
The new laws are proposing that Skateboarding wil;l finally be seen as a formal mode of transportation around the city. A law that should have been changed long ago.
