Stylish. Spontaneous. Unpredictable. Powerful. Authentic. Honestly, when it comes to describing someone’s skating, those are exactly the kind of words you want floating around. Erick Winkowski checks all the boxes—and then some.
There’s literally never a dull moment when the dude is on his board, which is why he's always been one of my absolute favorites. So of course, I'm thrilled that Santa Cruz just dropped this new Winkowski documentary.
To say the least, it's a proper deep-dive into the unique mind and life of one of skateboarding's purest individuals. You know the drill—get comfy and press play. This one is too good.
Winkowski isn’t just a skater. I mean, he is, but he’s seriously a one-of-a-kind force, on and off the board. And watching him rip around is a reminder of why we all fell in love with skateboarding in the first place.
Creative, fearless, full of life... he’s proof that this thing we do isn’t just some sport or whatever—it’s a way to have fun, push limits, and truly express yourself like no one else can.
*Not to take away any of Winkowski's well-deserved shine, but since we're talking about Santa Cruz and documentaries, you should peep Dressen's True Grit doc above as well.
Okay, but back to Erick—my admiration for the dude was only amplified after watching this doc. Hearing from his mom and dad (they definitely understood the assignment!), family, friends and all the people closest to him was too rad. A classic skateboarding story. I could say so many things, but you really just need to check it out for yourself.
If you're still here, drop whatever you're doing and go skate today! Learn some new tricks. Nerd out on the past. Go explore. Care your own path. Just get out there. Do it for Winkowski.
