I feel like I've been seeing more and more from the Tanabata Skateboards camp the past few weeks and I'm all for it. Adding Chris Russell to the squad was a big win. Pedro Barros and Sky Brown need no introduction. And skaters like Taylor Nye and Yuro Nagahara might be a bit more low key, but bring something fresh to the table all the same.
Keeping Taylor and Yuro in mind, this ripping duo recently took a day trip to TJ to skate some backyard pools and cutty DIY spots for Tanabata and came back with a rad edit. Check it out:
Tacos, crusty 'crete and endless stoke—seems like this trip was as productive as it was downright enjoyable. The formula is actually pretty easy, when you think about it: load up the van, take the trip, and skate as much as you can. The cold ones and sightseeing will naturally happen along the way.
Tanabata recently posted a video of Chris Russell breaking down his move to Tanabata after leaving longtime board sponsor, Creature. Check it above! No bad blood or anything, but Chris is just in a different place these days—on and off the board—and his switch to Tanabata makes perfect sense, especially when you hear it from The Muscle himself.
I'm excited to see what the brand has in store for 2026 and beyond. It seems like they're laying a proper foundation, and more importantly, everything they're doing is very thoughtful and real. We need more of that these days. Peep the latest from Tanabata here.
