What We Like: Nuts & Bolts

Have you ever heard someone speak about the "nuts and bolts" of any particular subject and thought to yourself, "What is this fool going on about now? All these practical yet minuscule details are numbing my brain." Your face goes blank as you stare directly through the person speaking, all the while the voice in your head, quietly building towards a full-pitched scream, repeats your new mantra, "Why won't you just shut up, this is basic shit we're talking about!" If you've experienced this rage you're not alone, the fact is that the practical details, no matter how exciting the topic, are just not that interesting. Take skateboarding for example, stimulating stuff no doubt, then I start in on a long-winded explanation of how I've perfectly paired my 1/8" risers with 1" hardware, avoiding wheel-bite while maintaining a streamlined lightweight setup, and just like that I've bored you into taking up scootering. So where does that leave the hardworking hardware companies of the world, left out of the media spotlight? Nothing exciting enough to report on? What if I told you it's not all cut and dry function? What if I told you that these days hardware has become a statement piece, a form of self expression, a confetti colored revolution liberating you from the chains of conformity? Still bored? Maybe you should scroll down and watch a skate video or something. -Keegan Callahan
