Mandatory Info
Cell DivisionMitosis is a term used to describe the process of cellular division. In this case, it's used to describe the situation at Giant Distribution with its New Deal brand. Kenny Reed, Rob Gonzalez, and Chad Tim Tim left the Deal to start a new brand with Cairo Foster entitled Populis. Its current roster includes the four mentioned above with ams Ramon Molinar and Adam Crew, along with another big gun to be named later. New Deal is still charging strong, in case you were wondering. They'll continue on with pro representatives Ryan Johnson, Chad Bartie, Fabrizio Santos, Lincoln Ueda, and Ricky Oyola.
Over at the Label, Jason Adams has started Six Gun skateboards-merely a division or an extension of Black Label. The situation is a unique one, because Jason will have models on both brands. The Kid's using the opportunity to express his own ideas, build the team, and handle the direction of the brand-look out for the western-fueled graphics to appear on shop shelves soon. Six Gun's team is made up of Chet Childress and The Kid for now. We'll keep you posted of further team developments as we learn of them.
Black Label's team is still busy putting down the hammers for its video production Black Out, which should have some good footage of the young guns on the team, namely Adam Alfaro, Patrick Melcher, Rag Doll, Jub, Jim Gagne, and Ben "The Barbarian" Gilley, as well as the rest of the squad.
Wood
Dan Drehobl has left the longtime sponsorship of Think to ride for Mark Gonzales' skateboard project/creative exploration Krooked. Dan is the first rider to join Mark on the team. Future members will be announced as they are known.
A couple months ago, pool destroyer and virtual all-around annihilator Neil Hedding's left 151 to start up a new company entitled Roll Model skateboards. Its current lineup includes Neil, Pigpen, and Chris Swanson on the pro end, while Jon Ponts, Chris Cudlip, and Jonny Layton are holding the am team down. Pick your roll model today.
Stevie Williams and his Gold wheels partner Eli Soto have created a new skateboard and video-production company called DGK Productions. Keeping the streets in mind, DGK has enlisted Marcus McBride, Henry Sanchez, and Jeremy Holmes to join Stevie on the squad.
In related news, Williams, Soto, and Expedition-One's Troy Morgan have created The Kayo Corp to handle the distribution of the DGK, Gold, Expedition-One, and Organika brands. More information's obtainable at thekayocorp.com.
HearsayWith the mention of Chet Childress on Six Gun, you might be wondering what's happening with 151 skateboards. Well, we're not sure either. Rumors have sprouted suggesting that Imperial Distribution is done, but the brands it distributes-Judah, 151, Maple, and Dynasty-might be picked up by other distributors. Stay tuned for future updates.
Tum Yeto distribution partnered themselves with a European company, Stealth Marketing, to create Tum Yeto EU. With its headquarters in London, the Yeto will be able to service all of Europe focusing on the individual needs of specific regions concerning currency evaluations, marketing and planning, effective manufacturing, sales optimization, and duty strategies. A win-win situation for distributor and retailer alike. Currently Tum Yeto is working on a Europe-specific clothing line to promote its brands. Tum Yeto distributes Foundation, Toy Machine, Zero, Hollywood, Deathbox, Rukus, and Pig.
In related notes, after Hollywood released its promo video, they've already put the team back on the streets to film for its full-length. No release date set thus far. Keep an eye out for the follow-up video to Foundation's 2001 release of Art Bars: Subtitles And Seagulls, due out late 2002. Toy Machine's Josh Harmony picked up Revolution wheels as a sponsor. Deathbox skateboards added Dave Ruel and Eric Dressen to its impressive list of tranny killers: Jay Adams, Dave Hackett, ug "Pineapple" Saladino, Brad Bowman, Wentzle Ruml, Tom Inouye, Adrain Demain, and Mike Folmer. There's a pool-riding documentary on the horizon entitled Chlorine.
News from the north: Real skateboards has elevated Dennis Busenitz to the pro ranks. Look for his pro model to be out soon. Also, Real's Keith Hufnagel put the finishing touches on his new shoe store. If you're in San Francisco, stop by. Maybe Tony Trujillo's pro-model shoe from Vans will be on the shelves. Spitfire's next series of pro wheels includes graphics for Alex "Trainwreck" Gall and Dustin Dollin. Thunder trucks has picked up Billy Marks and added Nate Broussard to its flow team.
The Consolidated Army has been filming for its video due out this holiday season. Unfortunately, during a trip to gather footage in Spain, all but three of the tapes were stolen. A minor setback for the crew. Look for Karma Tschoeff, Alan Petersen, Richard Paez, Clint Peterson, Seth McCallum, Doug Saenz, Roberto Aleman, Steve Bailey, Ryan Wilburn, Gary Collins, and new ams Jeremiah Babb and Ryan Kent, as well as Jesse Paez, who rejoined the team in August. Bootleg skateboards has released three pro models for rookie Anthony Mosley. Elissa Steamer purchased a residence in her hometown of Fort Meyers, Florida. Scott Kane just returned from a Vans trip to Mexico City narrowly escaping the deadly Den Gay virus. Trainwreck is officially on Emerica and will have some stunts featured in their new video. Bootleg is set to debut its first video in the spring of 2003. It should be a doozy.
Reese Forbes has been working closely with Element's woodshop to manufacture the lightest and poppiest board to date, the Element Fiberlight. He's been testing the board, waiting for the opportunity to break the world-record ollie set at 44.5 inches by Brigade's Danny Wainwright. Is it possible there'll be another Reese Forbes Ollie Challenge in the near future?
Termite skateboards released its first skate video Pest Control. Featuring parts from a pint-sized squad between the ages of five to twelve years old. Take a look at tomorrow's professionals today.
Terrain
In the October 2002 issue, we reported that the Stone Edge skatepark in Daytona Beach, Florida was put to rest. But this was only partly true. Yes, it was closed down, but the park was soon purchased by Kona's skatepark owner, Marty Ramos. Reportedly, the peanut, clover, and egg bowls were destroyed, but the rest of the park is going to stay. Team Payne is currently working on plans for new pools and bowls to replace the ones destroyed. Stay tuned for future updates about its reopening.
Fibers
Sessions clothing has added Steve Caballero to its roster. Back in 1983, Steve was one of the first riders for Sessions Skate Shop. Steve has over twenty years of skating under his belt, and there doesn't seem to be any sign he's slowing down. A while back, Steve set up a scholarship program called Cab's Kids. Freshjive has enlisted Dave Seltzer to wear the pants as its team manager. He'll be responsible for taking care of the needs of its teamriders Mike York, Gino Iannucci, John Cardiel, Daniel Castillo, Damien Bravo, Mike Talyor, and new team member Aaron Yeager.
Da Kine has been busy building a solid skate team by adding Neal Mims, Tyler Bledsoe, and Toebee Parkhurst to its roster which already includes Mike Vallely, Paul Machnau, Mike Frazier, Jon Comer, Dave Hupp, Chris Haslam, Ariel Stagni, Jessie Van Roechoudt, Javier Sarmiento, Alain Goixtera, Glenn Suggit, Jesse Landen, and Dave Lapchuk.

Erik Ellington has been working with the Emerica's R&D department putting the finishing touches on his first pro shoe, The Double E. It should be ready to wear by Spring 2003. France's Aeon Footwear has brought on the talented Brazilian Alex Carolino to ride for the team.
DC Shoes has launched Project Detention, a half-hour magazine-format show broadcast on Fox Sports Net. The show will feature three- to four-minute segments, created by high school-aged kids from around the country. Project Detention airs Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. on Fox Sports Net, and for all you night owls, it's rerun later that night at 2:00 a.m. Visit dcshoecousa.com for more information.

Indy TM Joey Tershay along with longtime Indy rider Bryce Kanights are spearheading the project, which will include a history section representing five different time periods in Indy's timeline, a selection of teamriders with photos, videos, and profiles, as well as other assorted influences. Log on.Grind King has developed a Jay Adams signature truck-a full-blown pool truck. Grind some pool coping. Grind King has also added Fred Kahler to its pro roster.

It looks like Chad Bartie is the newest team member on Bones wheels. He will also be one of the first to get a signature wheel, next to Dayne Brummet who's getting a pro wheel as well. Bones also added Ramiro Salcedo to its team.
On The Horizon
The year 2003 could quite easily be another great year for videos. Emerica is set to release This Is Skateboarding in early 2003. Habitat is currently filming for its visual documentation. No release date as of print time. Premium Wood is also sending its riders to the trenches for footage. The Girl skateboard team has been busy skating all over the world collecting the goods for its next eye pleaser. It should be off the charts. Jon Comer is presently in postproduction of a documentary about his life. The working title, A Skate Of Mind, has been changed to Never Been Done. The movie will tell the story of Comer's life-how he overcame tragedy to become one of the world's top professional skateboarders and an inspiration to so many. The movie has a tentative premiere date set in January 2003 at an independent film festival. Look for a possible sneak peek in late Fall 2002.
Mishaps
In the December 2002 issue, we erroneously messed up Adam Crew's name and called him Ryan Crew in the Sloppy Seconds video review. We also forgot to give Portland's Mike McGovern credit for his two Zeitgeist Gallery photos. Sorry, guys.
Other Stuff
Ed Templeton is featured in a solo art exhibit entitled The Essential Disturbance, which is running until November 10, 2002 at the Palais De Tokyo art museum in Paris, France (better known as the famous "dome" skate spot). The Golden Age Of Neglect is a 100-page book of Ed's photographs that will accompany the show and should prove to be a collector's piece. The show also has plans to travel to Rome in early 2003! Make your travel plans now.
Longtime skateboarder, photojournalist, and all-around walking skateboard encyclopedia, Miki Vukovich, has moved on from TransWorld SKATEboarding to become an associate producer of ON Video. Miki was TransWorld's very first subscriber, garnered sixteen years as senior photographer for the mag, and spent the latter six years as editor of TransWorld SKATEboarding Business. Miki Vuckovich will be deeply missed at the TransWorld camp, but will enlighten an entirely new group of individuals. He quite possibly could be the most knowledgeable man in the skateboard industry. Good luck in your new ventures, Mik.
