San Diego skateboarder, content creator, and all-around epic human Zack Dowdy embodies the DIY spirit like no other. In fact, for as long as I’ve known him, he’s literally always been building, skating, and creating, strictly for the love.
These days, that flame is burning as bright as ever, and one of his most recent missions—deep in the secluded mountains of Southern California—had me (and countless others) super fired up. This really is what it's all about right here:
First of all—this is gnarly! Nothing about this looked easy, you know? From scouting the spot to getting the materials, hauling them through thick brush (under the hot summer sun), and eventually actually building the spot, that first session must have felt like a kid's first trip to Disneyland or something!
I feel like I always learn something new from Zack's videos, which in itself is rad. It's funny how motivating it can be to see someone physically doing the things we often merely dream about doing! If that doesn't light a little fire under your ass, what will? I could say a million other things, but honestly, I don't need to. Settle in and press play if you haven't already—the rest will fall into place.
Zack rules and his never-ending quest for radness will forever be inspiring. We should all take a page out of his book, don't you think? As he says: "Feel a spark, spread the fire!" Six words that pack a serious punch.
