Ed Templeton’s impact on skateboarding (and art) is undeniable. Duh, I know. But hearing him and Jamie Thomas break down the evolution of his creative journey in this new Warsaw video was still super insightful, especially if your a fan of Ed.
From his early days balancing his pro skateboarding career with painting and photography to becoming a full-on artist and still knocking out Toy Machine graphics to this day, this conversation gives us a behind-the-scenes look at how his career took shape. Always a pleasure when these two get together. Take a look:
This convo obviously goes way beyond just art, though. It’s more about the overlap between skateboarding and creativity as a whole, if you ask me.
Regardless, Ed and Jamie take a proper deep dive into their history together, from the Toy Machine days to Ed creating his first pro graphics, being inspired by New Deal and Neil Blender, and of course hosting gallery shows and publishing books the last few years.
It can't be easy evolving in both worlds. In fact, it's super impressive. But it seems like it all happened pretty naturally for Ed. That's part of what makes it all so special.
Anyways, whether you're a longtime fan of Ed’s work and skating like myself and countless others, or are just now getting into his art and how rad Toy Machine is, this video and conversation is an absolute treat.
Thanks to Ed and Jamie for the decades of inspiration. Shoot, you could argue they're just getting started.
