I ride an 8 1/2 by 33-inch board with a fifteen-inch wheelbase. I like the Flip board called the Hate, Kill, Destroy model, it’s pretty much the only board I’ve ridden since I’ve been on Flip. Before that I used to ride the Toy Machine board that was just as big. I started skating in the 80s, when boards were wider, so now I ride big boards because they feel a lot more comfortable.I feel more comfortable on a wide board with wide trucks, so I ride 850 Furys, and... When skaters do amazing or creative tricks, you’d best believe people notice. Have you been paying attention? Match the trick to the skater who did it. Better yet, draw a line and connect ‘em. Rob Dyrdek interviews hip-hop's enigma Kool Keith
|TransWorld Skateboarding
It is said that the music we listen to reflects our personalities. If that's true, what could liking this Kool Keith lyric possibly tell others about us?"Digital level, standin' on the terminal/ upside down through polygons fight pentagons/ changin' blue skin, my brown color's comin' back/ I'm psychedelic this time, comin' rainbow/ look at the green light, and ya'll see my brain glow/ five colors: yellow, black, and red, and green/ purple"What will people think of us when they discover Kool Keith has no driver's license but does have three... Shorty's Summer Tour
|TransWorld Skateboarding
Being on the road gives one a long time to think about things. As the countless miles of road pass under your seated ass, all of life's questions seem to pop up for you to ponder in your mind. And with the company of good friends, it makes for some interesting conversations and memorable experiences. In early August 1999, some members of the Shorty's crew got together to do a tour through six Western states.Steve Olson, Peter Smolik, Brandon Turner, and Sammy Baptista joined forces to get some skating done... G-ShockingIn still further attempts by massive corporations to gain footholds in the lucrative yet hyper-sensitive youth market, G-Shock (the deep-sea branch of Casio Inc.) have recruited skateboarders to bolster their efforts. The New Jersey-based watch manufacturer has released a line of watches designed by the guys at Hook-Ups as well as a series of pro-model timepieces featuring well-know pros Steve Caballero , Willy Santos , and Omar Hassan . Each of the watches is water resistant to 200 meters (just in case you feel like swimming to your death under... Read more...
Big-Air Battle
|TransWorld Skateboarding
Isaac Nesser holds the world record for largest chest at a bulging 74 inches. He's been lifting weights since he was eight years old, and now lifts twice a day in two-hour shifts. His program includes bench-pressing 560 pounds in a series of three to five repetitions, and curling 300-pound barbells. What does that have to do with anything? Nothing. What does MTV have to do with skateboarding? Nothing, but if big-chest Isaac showed up at the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas for the MTV "world record" air contest,... Read more...
Litterbox Pro-Series
|TransWorld Skateboarding
Welcome to Litterbox Pro-Series. We know you would be stoked to have some pros answer your letters, so we rounded up a pro posse and set 'em loose. It turns out Steve Caballero, Ed Templeton, Tony Hawk, and Bob Burnquist actually like answering your letters. Some of them are pretty funny, too. Now go send some mail to 353 Airport Road, Oceanside, California 92054 or e-mail us at skatemag@twsnet.com.–Shad SWITCH What's up? The other day I woke up with a damn question. Two Weeks Worth Of Film
|TransWorld Skateboarding
On October first I set sail on a two-week mission of road trips. The first trip was another footage-collection trip that Ty put together for the newest video, The Reason. It was a little weird to leave this late in the fall, but we were only going to San Jose and San Francisco. I gathered up half the posse, which was Danny Montoya, Gershon Mosley, and Jon Holland. We met Ty at LAX, where he'd just picked up Moses Itkonen and Paul Machnau, and then my brother Ako swindled his... Read more...
The Skateboarding Game Show
|TransWorld Skateboarding
It was during the latest Powell tour in Japan that SteveCaballero, John Comer, Jody Morris, and I ended up on a Japanese skateboarding game show. Hasco, the Powell distributor, told us he'd booked us for an appearance on a TV show. We figured we were just going to a talk show, but then they told us it was a skateboard game show. Nobody explained the whole situation, so we didn't really know what to expect. The show was at one of the biggest stations in Japan. They had official Japanese... Read more...
Good Stuff - Jim Gagne
|TransWorld Skateboarding
The pride of Greenfield, Massachusetts. Jim Gagne has been on the outside looking in for a long time. His name has resounded throughout the Northeast as an outlaw hero for almost a decade, but the pretty-boy sunbathers of the West Coast, those who run the show, have all but ignored his talent, heart, and persistence. True, through the years they've thrown him a few bones, a sponsorship here, a photo or video clip there, but he's always tossed their skeptical adoration right back in their faces. This dog wants respect.On... Read more...
Put Your Skatepark On The Beach!
|TransWorld Skateboarding
At a meeting held in Santa Monica, the California Coastal Commission voted unanimously to approve the construction of a public skatepark at the beach in Santa Barbara, California. Not only was the vote unanimous, but three of the commissioners went out of their way (breaking protocol) to speak out in favor of the skatepark, seemingly passing on the message that anyone who didn't support the skatepark was out of touch with the times. In fact, the commission's decision will affect the development of skateparks in several other California cities, essentially paving... Chad Bartie Lets You Know What He Rides
|TransWorld Skateboarding
I ride my New Deal pro model between eight and 8.25 inches wide, I go by feel really. Bigger boards feel more stable for me; if you sketch on a trick you've got a little more room to stand on. I like '"em with a bit of a bigger nose for tricks because I have bigger feet. I put my grip just straight on, no lines. I'm actually testing a new truck at the moment called Defiant; they're from Australia. They're still in the development stages, but I'm riding the... Read more...
Baker Bootleg
|TransWorld Skateboarding
Your parents are going to hate this video, that's why you'll love it. The video is self-proclaimed, "100-percent raw, shitty filming, unauthorized, parental-guidance suggested" and that's the truth. Not really a skate video, not really a CKY-type video, the Baker Bootleg is the redheaded stepchild of the Warner Ave. Crew. Speaking of red, the promo copy came in a old porno box spraypainted red with a bonus cigarette lighter inside. So what's in this piece? Old and new skate footage of Andrew Reynolds, some unreleased digital footage from The End,... Read more...
Jealousy, Idolatry, and Big Air
|TransWorld Skateboarding
I remember the day I came home from school and my brother rode up on his brand-new metallic-blue flake-painted Schwinn Stingray bike, spun a big brodie in front of me, and lightly dusted my brand-new suede desert boots. He thought he was so cool with his flashy paint job and matching banana seat–ohhh, I was so jealous! Then he muttered those damnable five words, "Look what Dad bought me!"I was infuriated by his boasting, and the only retort I could muster up was, "Where's mine?"On the way down to the... Hundred-Dollar Bearings!?Hundred-Dollar Bearings!?
|TransWorld Skateboarding
A hundred-twenty bucks is enough to get a complete skateboard. So why would anyone spend a fat stack of 120 dead presidents on bearings? I'll tell you why. The Bones Swiss Ceramics are frickin' fast. Apparently, Bones discovered something called "Purity Silicon Nitride Ceramic Balls," which mean "fast as f–k." Now, if you've got the cash, these seem to be the butta-smooth babies to put in your ride. They're lighter, should last longer, and of course, are faster than a skateboarder being chased by the fuzz. I've even heard that... Read more...

A hundred-twenty bucks is enough to get a complete skateboard. So why would anyone spend a fat stack of 120 dead presidents on bearings? I'll tell you why. The Bones Swiss Ceramics are frickin' fast! Good Stuff - Paul Machnau
|TransWorld Skateboarding
A lot of people still haven't even heard Paul's name let alone seen him skate, but all that's changing very quickly. Paul is making the kind of waves on his skateboard that just can't be ignored. Being from British Columbia makes him a very well-rounded skater like many who have emerged from that region before him. Some people develop a certain area of expertise on a skateboard; they become known for one thing or skill above others and it pigeon-holes them. Paul won't have that problem, as you can see... What Chany Jeanguenin rides and why?
|TransWorld Skateboarding
I don't really go by board dimensions, I just stand on my board and see if it's wide enough; I just kind of feel it. I like kind of steep boards, I also like them kind of skinny for more control and it's just better for flip tricks. I have two setups, though–one for vert and one for street. My vert board is a little wider and longer. The board I ride is the Expedition Inerlock, it's rad because you can set it up in like two minutes. I definitely... Read more...
Retreat From No Man's Land
|TransWorld Skateboarding
Normally, a road trip ends up back where you started. However, for the purpose of our Route 66 trip, we went one way along Route 66, which left us in Chicago. There was no set plan on how to get back. Well, the "how" was obvious (by car), but the route was anything but set. But there was one destination that had always gnawed at our curiosity: Area 51 in Nevada - perhaps you've heard of it. Despite the government's best efforts, Area 51 has become famous thanks to movies... Read more...
