THE HOON RUN
|TransWorld Skateboarding
By Andrew CurrieHow often do you get to do exactly what you want? I suppose when youàre a certified professional skateboarder, more often than not. As for the rest of us average spuds, however, itàs occasional. Whether you dig a ditch or push a pen in order to earn your bread, for the most part, youàre engaged in some menial task that hopefully affords you that elusive window of freedom once in a while to do exactly what the fók you want. For me, exactly what I want has become known... Bam's latest auto acquisition is a custom purple Lamborghini. So are Ferraris officially played out for pro skaters? Guess he bought it to reward himself for conquering the loop-only the thirteenth skater to successfully ride away from it. Look for the footage at adiofootwear.com. Bam and his crew have also been given the thumbs up to start filming the fifth season of Viva La Bam. Adrian Lopez has never tried the loop, but that didn't stop him from buying a custom low-rider Harley. Brandon Biebel has been spotted rolling around... Read more...

Words by Jamie ThomasSince Zero started in 1996, there've been several generations of teamriders. Nonetheless, Zero continues to persevere and reinvent itself as a company and as a team of working-class skateboarders. While every successful company has certain dynamics that contribute to its success, Zero has a team of misfits who each play a unique role in making Zero what it is. This article features the cast of the new Zero video. We introduce you to Zero's "New Blood."Chris Cole22 Years OldLevitown, PennsylvaniaIn order to stay removed from the somewhat tainted... King Of Freestyle's Boston MassacreThis long-awaited sequel to P.J. Ladd's Wonderful Horrible Life might have you a little surprised. First off, the menus and chapters are confusing as hell-nothing seems to play in any particular order and the credits are in between each skateboarder's part, but it's kinda fun. Secondly, there're some new skaters in the video (Hector, Skyy, Daddy Longlegs), some you'll recognize from the last video (Southie, Dave Vey, Colin Fiske), and a few missing (Jereme Rogers, Alexis Sablone). Thirdly, the skating in this video is different. It's... Read more...
Trick Tip - Kickflip Backside Tailslides By Steve Berra
|TransWorld Skateboarding
1. The secret to this trick is the backside tailslide and a decent backside flip.2. The angle on this one should be pretty much parallel-not totally, but more parallel with the ledge than not. Another key is to really look at your board. I've found that sometimes when I don't look at my board, I don't seem to make it. I'm either looking at the ledge, the ground, or somewhere else. I know it sounds ridiculous, but you'd be amazed how often it happens.3. Anyway, look at your board and... Read more...

Photos and story by Giovanni RedaEvery year in skateboarding there're several things that always happen. For one, there're the trade shows-they're basically one big skateboarding party. Anyone who's anyone in the industry is there. Also, there're a bunch of contests that happen in Europe that everyone goes to, so you can always count on that happening. Another thing is traveling to Australia-someone always spends the winter months there because it's summer on the other side of the Earth. Well, that's just a couple of them, but I've started my own... Read more...

Hawk Kids - Growing Up Fast
|TransWorld Skateboarding
Author: Carleton CurtisGrowing Up FastIt's the mini adults of the Hawk Clothing team.By Carleton CurtisNo cliche is more dead-on than, "Gee, kids sure do grow up fast these days." The Hawk Clothing team exemplifies that and then some. In fact, most of the Hawk kids have been on more airplanes in one year than their parents have in their entire lifetimes. And let's not get started with the contracts: some of 'em are making more bank than their parents-at fourteen, no less. Oh, and did we mention street smarts? Hawk... Read more...
Starting Point-Pole Jam
|TransWorld Skateboarding
Pole Jams By Kyle Leeper1. First find a pole that's not too steep-the steeper it is, the harder it's going to be to grind up it.2. The first time you try this it might be a little scary, so start by grinding up about halfway, then jump off to the side.3. Now that you've got a feel for how this works, here's what you need to know to pull off the trick: You don't want to go too fast or you'll just hit the pole and stop. Approach the pole... If you read the letter above, your first instinct was that it was a fake. And it most certainly is-however, the message of the letter is real. We just changed the names to protect the innocent-us, I suppose. This notice came on official letterhead from a school district in Southern California warning TransWorld SKATEboarding to not publish any more photos at a particular school "without prior knowledge or written consent." The FutureheadsThe FutureheadsSireDueling accapella "ohs" and "ahs" are among the first of the inviting quirks on this album full of jittery rhythms and ADD-laden riffs. It's immediately apparent they've been influenced by Devo, XTC, and Gang Of Four (fittingly, GOF's Andy Gill produced the album), yet they manage to stake their own claim in the land between American garage rock and English new wave-retro, yet progressive. By now you're probably saying to yourself, "How noble. That sounds like every other band coming out right now." Well, their brain-frying pop does... Read more...
Starting Point - Crailslide By Chris Senn
|TransWorld Skateboarding
1. The crailslide is a timeless trick. I don't think I've ever seen anyone do one without it looking good.2. The first thing you'll want to do is learn frontside tailslides-then after that, the crailslide is pretty basic.3. Approach the lip at sort of a frontside grind slash speed and slide your tail up the tranny about a foot below the coping.4. As your back truck hits the lip, grab your nose with your back hand and whip your board into a tailslide. Now hold on and push your back... Read more...
Back in the Day
|TransWorld Skateboarding
Back In The DayAs skateboarding continually evolves, standards are elevated as goals are conquered, fashion runs in circles, and what is previously thought to be unattainable becomes quite the opposite-all while our battles tend to remain the same. Some will attempt to predict skateboarding's future, while others make a go at downplaying their knowledge of what's to come. The following quotes represent the irony, ignorance, foretelling, foreshadowing, and the just, plain dumb, strange things as we look back skateboarding's past.-Eric Stricker"Dan Sturt is right-there are too many photographers. Danny Way recently returned from Austria where he underwent another knee surgery to replace a torn ACL-an ACL that was previously repaired with a synthetic material. It all started with a torn meniscus and a trip to the hospital in San Diego. Upon opening Danny's knee, the doctors discovered his synthetic ACL had been blown apart as well. The doctor in Canada who originally installed the synthetic tendon wasn't available to operate on Danny for six months, so he recommended a doctor in Austria, and Danny was immediately on a...
