What up, homies? My new iMac is pimped out with a DVD player so I can watch movies all day while I pretend to be working. Ohhhhh! Jet Li just broke off a backflip razor kick against The Killing Machine in Fist Of Legend. I better replay that. Send DVDs to: TransWorld SKATEboarding, 353 Airport Road, Oceanside, California 92054. Jerry Hsu Good Stuff
|TransWorld Skateboarding
by Erik OlsenLet me tell you the story of Jerry Hsu. My first encounter wrs ago while I was mopping the floor at Safeway, where he was shopping with his mother, Sue Hsu. He was a preteen with hair down to his back, and he had many holes in his black clothes. I believe he was rocking a Fotsom and Gotsom or Pantera shirt. He said, "Hi Erik." I was wondering who this Chinese rocker was, but he seemed friendly enough. Days later I saw Jerry skate. Seeing him push,... Read more...

The Last PageI'm currently reading a manuscript for a book that's about to be released by HarperCollins, a big-time New York-based book publisher. The book, entitled HAWK Occupation: Skateboarder, was written by Tony Hawk with some help from his friend Sean Mortimer, and it essentially chronicles Tony's life in the first person. I'm only about halfway through, but I've read the last page, so I know how it ends. With the permission of HarperCollins, God, and Tony (though not necessarily in that order) we've reprinted a segment of one of the... Japan Man: The Flip team tours Japan in search of girls with pigtails.
|TransWorld Skateboarding
by Geoff RowleyJapan has eluded my presence many a time. I've been trying for years to get there. You see, I have this problem¿they're called pigtails. Pigtails with little Japanese girls attached to them. And no matter how much I try to pretend I'm past my obsession, it always comes back to me. The agony of denial rests on my sordid head, and I am powerless to do anything about it other than accept an invitation to fly to Japan and spend two weeks grinning from ear to ear with... 2-Week-Old Sushi: On tour in Japan with Element skateboards.
|TransWorld Skateboarding
by Ryan Kingman"Go to Japan with the Element team? Are you kidding? Of course, I'd love to go," is the response that would be tendered from the average skateboarder these days. However, there are some outside circumstances involved that may tarnish the immediate luster of your "golden apple."But I didn't care, either. Let's go.First off, my newfound fear of flying had my head full of flashbacks from movies in which an unsuspecting traveler finds himself in the hands of fate, fighting for his life miles in the air, so I... Bam Margera Pro Spotlight
|TransWorld Skateboarding
Intro To Bam's LifeMy brain doesn't allow me to like too many people here on planet Earth. It's not my fault; my bionic brain just does what it wants to do. Although it gives most people the courtesy of my being polite to them when I see them, it doesn't mean I don't talk an immediate heap of crap on them the minute they leave. One of the people I don't do this to is Bam Margera. He gets the platinum stamp of approval, and that's a rarity from me.I... Read more...
Overdose: Pulling A "No-Show"
|TransWorld Skateboarding
by Ed TempletonTour is always, without question, an overdose of people, places and things¿"things" being tour vans, time away from home, and skateboarding. Each person overdosed in some way or another on this trip. It's easy to overdose on other people's personalities, and tour brings out the extremes of personality in each person. After all, they're crammed in a van with you, just like you're crammed in a van with them. After spending a week with someone, their little quirks start showing up like neon lights. And some things people... Read more...
Trick Tips: Half-Cab boardslides with Brian Sumner
|TransWorld Skateboarding
1. Go to 7 Eleven, get a candy bar, and make sure you can do half-Cabs and boardslides first.2. This trick is easier if you have some speed. Ollie and start turning your shoulders 90 degrees.3. The key is concentrating on getting your front truck over the obstacle. Don't bonk.4. Keep your shoulders straight while railsliding. This helps keep your board form turning too far and hitting the rail.5. Start turning the other 90 degrees to pop off.6. Extend your legs.7. Suck it up.8. Go get a Slurpee and freeze... Read more...

Flogging Mollyby Ted NewsomeThe Band Flogging Molly is a seven-piece band out of So Cal that's hard to put a label on. The front man, Dave King, is from Dublin, Ireland. He's about as Irish as a man can be and responsible for the band's howling vocals and acoustic guitar. Next to Dave is none other than skateboard legend Matt Hensley. This time he's strapped with an accordion instead of a skateboard, but you can tell Matt approaches this complex instrument with the same determination and skill that made him... Read more...

Starting Point: Backside 180s with Jake Stewart
|TransWorld Skateboarding
1. Backside 180s are all about the windup. They're also kind of tricky because you can't really see where you're going.2. When you start your ollie, you should start looking down at your board.3. Once you ollie, you should start turning your shoulders slightly backside. 4. Suck up those legs, and start using your back foot to "scoop" the board around.5. Now you'll start turning your board faster. Remember to turn your shoulders and scoop with your back foot.6. Extend those legs and turn the board back all the way.... Read more...
New Deal Heads To South America
|TransWorld Skateboarding
by Ricky OyolaI wasn't sure what to expect in terms of finding skate spots in South America. I knew there had to be some good things to skate. All we (Rob Gonzalez, Kenny Reed, Ryan Johnson, Ryan Gee, and 411 filmer Anthony Claravale) had to do was venture around the cities and find them. Before I left, I thought we'd spend most of our time in skateparks throughout Lima, Peru; and Quito, Ecuador; and most of our street skating would take place in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Turns out that all... Read more...

Touring Western Australia with the subcontinent's finest.by Morgan Campbell Here We Go AgainOver the last five years, I've been approached several times to write articles describing the city of Perth, Western Australia to the rest of the skateboarding world. This is my seventh attempt at explaining the nature of my hometown, so it's going to be hard not to repeat myself. words via Crafty Bernardo (Shad's evil twin brother)When security limped away from the battle zone, I noticed one guy had a couple of swelling lumps on his forehead¿making it look more like a fivehead. I found this very entertaining, as did the huge stadium crowd that was going beserkers. But when I saw Arto knocked out on the ground bleeding, I was instantly scared for the kid. Wait, I'm getting ahead of myself, this story is supposed to be like 2,000 words, that's what my brother Shad says. So let's... Read more...

Cell Phones Rule Japan

By Ryan GeeMarch 10 marked a mission far beyond home I'd been waiting a long time for. Our destination¿Japan. For years I was fascinated by Japanese culture and dreamed that someday I'd make it there. Being a gadget freak, this was the place for me to be.The mission was with Arcade¿I'd never met any of those guys before, so at first I felt weird. It all ended up good, though.
